Central jetty for Outer Abra extension at Port of Bilbao (First Stage)
This project was the final stage of the works to end the Outer Abra at the Port of Bilbao, backfilling 6.5 million cubic metres of sand extracted from the seabed at peths of 45 to 75 meters.
The bulk of the work consisted of dredging, pumping ashore and spreading. The dredging and pumping ashore was done with a mega trailing suction hopper dredger, used in order to be able reach the considerable depths in the area to be dredged, while also capable of high production rates in accordance with the large volume of material involved. On land, the dry earth moving equipment then spread and levelled the material unloaded by the dredger.
